Day 16: 21 March - Hasta la Vista, Vegas

Last day in Las Vegas! To finish off my Vegas trip, I went down to the premium outlet mall for some shopping. They were woefully underwhelming! The outlet stores were all still very expensive brands, and well out of my budget, so I left empty handed.

I decided then to spend my last few hours in Vegas at the Stratosphere Hotel, the tallest building in Nevada at 109 storeys (or 112 if you go to the roof). I bought a ticket for unlimited rides and entry to the tower bar. For those unfamiliar with the rides, here they are!

The Insanity

The X-Treme

The Big Shot

I absolutely love heights and freaky rides, so I was in my element! The Insanity ride is a spider shaped one that dangles you out over the edge of the building and spins around. Considering heights don't scare me, all this achieved was motion-sickness - though it was pretty cool to hang that high up. Another ride was the X-treme, which acted like a roller coaster on a very small, see-saw like track, that would shoot you out over the edge and abruptly stop and pull you back up again. This one was very trippy, but I was disappointed because I didn't get the front row :(

My favourite (and certainly the scariest) was the Big Drop on the 112th floor (roof). I didn't exactly know what to expect from it - as I had thought that it took you to the top and then dropped you. Nope. When you least expected it, the seats shot up, bloody fast, leaving your stomach back down on the roof!! I'm ashamed to say I screamed like a baby and wanted to do it again and again, but time was running out! After checking out the tower bar (108th floor) and getting some phenomenal views (and pictures) of the 360 degree Las Vegas skyline, I ran back to my hostel to grab my bags, had one last (quick) walk down Freemont Street, and I was off to my next destination...Phoenix, Arizona.

So high!
