Day 19: 24 March - Take me out to the ball game!

My last day in Phoenix was spent at my first baseball game! Lena had managed to get me and her friend, Tim, a free ticket to the Chicago Cubs vs. Oakland A's game. Considering that Lena had introduced me to the Cubs and I met some of them the previous day, this is now my team! I also love blue and red so it totally works!

We headed to the stadium around 12pm for the 1pm game. It was everything I thought it would be. There were hot dogs and beer, and the baseball was really, really long! The game lasted for about 3 hours, but considering it was my first game, I was excited all the same! Unfortunately, the Cubs were thrashed! A total 16-2 home runs in the end. Not a great start to my newly found fandom, but it is only Spring Training.

View from some great seats!

After a good couple of hours of watching this one-sided game, we explored the grounds, and got our own beers and hot dogs..my baseball experience was complete! At the half-way point of the 7th inning, the crowd all stood for the 7th inning stretch and sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game". I was floored, this was incredible!

Quality hot dogs and beers

After the game, Lena and I headed back to the hostel for a relax, then went out for some dinner at a cute little cafe down the road. She then, so generously(!) drove me to the airport for my flight to Dallas. Thank you so much Lena, you were so kind and I can't wait to see you in Chicago in June!
