Day 17: 22 March - Phoenix bound

The bus left Las Vegas at 8.20pm and got into Phoenix at 4.50am. This would have been alright had I been able to sleep a wink! I'm sure I managed to doze off occasionally, but I was in serious need of a nap as soon as I got into Phoenix.

Phoenix is definitely a desert town. Just standing in the middle of the street, looking out at the horizon,  the mountations and cacti are so present! It is a stunning, spread out city, which derives so much of it's culture and art from Mexico, which became really apparent in the artsy, Roosevelt Street district, where my hostel was located.

I managed to overshoot my bus stop by a good 4 big blocks, which I ended up enjoying greatly, as I got to walk down Roosevelt Street and check out the street art, pop-up buildings and art pieces, and funky cafes along the way.

I got to the hostel at around 7.30am, but couldn't check in until 10. So I sat in the common area had brekkie with heaps of other travelers - it is a very friendly hostel! I finally checked in to my room at 10, and met my new friend, Ping.

Ping and I found that we were going to the same Spanish festival down the road, so we went down together. While the festival was small, the food was amazing, and we gorged ourselves on Paella and Churros while watching the Spanish performers!

Big Panda!

Best churros ever

Later on, the heat and the lack of sleep had caught up, so we went back to the hostel for a nap. There I met Lena, a girl from Chicago, who told me about the baseball Spring Training and easily convinced me to check out a game.

That night was very relaxed. I stayed up talking with the girls in the dorm and getting my washing done - it has to happen occasionally!
